the importance of bikes in india

just how important are bikes in india?
they are used to transport all sorts of things.
families, produce, hay for animals, scaffolding, goods and resources, products to sell at the market.

here are some pictures of things that bikes carry: enjoy!
..sorry some are cut off pretty bad!

the cows of india!

here are the sacred cows of india.
some of them seem happy and well fed, while others are walking skin and bones.
they go out during the day and walk around EVERYWHERE. traffic stops for them, people stop for them, the country stops for them.
then....somehow in the evening the cows find their way back home to the yard, pasture, barn, or garbage heap they call home.
here are some of the cows and bulls in action:

this picture is really hard to remember. mountains of garbage for miles and the cows by the edge of the road sifting through the heaps to find food.

check out the horns on that bull!

hey... those are not cows!!

India!

so my trip to Delhi, India for work was crazy fast paced and intense.
before i knew it i was off the plane and was plunged into the culture's sights, smells and sounds.
traffic, smog, daredevil motorbikes, bright beautiful colors, cows, loud car horns honking continuously day and night, the sulfur sent of lingering fireworks, calm people rushing everywhere...
these are just some of the things that come to mind when i now think of india.

here is your average cabbie in Delhi. green and yellow 3-wheeled vehicle ready to cram in passengers and sit in traffic.

famous temple ....' the something krishna' temple.

painted on the back of almost every truck is some combination of the following words in english : blow horn, use dipper at night, horn please, TATA.
this one was especially beautiful and also included 'love is life'

Charlotte's wedding

This is not the order I wanted it to be, oh well. This was their getaway car! So cute.
The mother of the bride. Lynda looked so pretty.
Erin, looking amazing!
Marty waiting at the alter. They are seriously the cutest couple I've ever seen. Her uncle played wild horses on the guitar, I cried like a baby.
I love you Charlotte!

I could live here!?

The houses in Portland were beautiful. Here are a few of my favorites!
I love the hearts and the matching car.
awesome door.

This one reminds me of the children's book Little House. do you see it?

Portland!

Portland was amazing! Shawn and I woke up early on Thursday to hunt for the perfect pumpkin. I don't know why we had to travel across the country to get into fall ?
We made pumpkin seeds with cinnamon, sugar and a little salt. so good.

pears at the farm's market.

sunday autumn dinner

After a very rainy and cold autumn weekend there is nothing like a great home-cooked meal with friends...

we started with a hearty minestrone
with tri-color tortellini, white beans, veggies, rosemary + thyme

Then moved on to the main course of

* eggplant parmesan lasagna with a meaty onion sauce
* avocado and tomato salad with balsamic vinaigrette
* fresh crusty sesame seed french baguette

....and of course a nice smooth cab sav

After a bit of resting ...and some much needed digesting, onto the next course!

A yummy dessert
of triple berry pie!
